Leo, Thursday, 27 August 2009

If you keep on doing the same old thing, you can't be too surprised if you keep on getting the same result. A change is not just 'as good as a rest'; it is as good as a helicopter. It can lift you right up and out of a situation that has been slowly draining your energy. It can allow you to look down on a set of familiar circumstances from the lofty height of a fresh perspective. It can help you tell the wood from the trees and see the overview where before, you have been caught up in the detail. If you want such a change, you can have it now. Soon, many dramas will unfold around us as Saturn and Uranus renew their intense opposition. But the healing 'triple conjunction' of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron remains powerful too.

http://www.cainer.com/

If only I could figure out what direction I'm supposed to be going...

This is the time we see the world we choose to live in. See it in all its splendour; you must see even that which you could not believe to be true. Imagine in your mind a community sharing and caring for all. Imagine a world of plenty using systems that work with our earth for a sustainable coexistence with humanity. See peoples' needs and desires met in a loving, peaceful manner cooperating in all so that we all will benefit. See it! What does it look like? See the people in your life living in harmony. See the children of the world in comfort and delight choosing just like us. A cooperative planet sharing the journey seeing to needs of all including our great mother earth.

For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

1) I make no guarantees that you will like what I make;
2) It'll be done this year (er, before December 31st, 2009)
3) You have no clue what it's going to be. It could be anything!
Jewelry, a poem, a contract, a mix CD, a photograph... anything, really.
4) I reserve the right to make something extremely odd.

The catch? Oct. 20th that's this upcoming weekend a week from yesterday. We've got Sean Caleb Renee and I in one car so that means it would be great if someone else would volunteer to drive since as far as people who have gotten back to me Jim, Tick Gemma and Keith would also like to go. Sorry it's on Saturday Zac. :(

Is there anyone else that wants to go that didn't get mentioned here? If you read this and know that someone else would want to go could you help pass it on? Thanks!

MADISON, Wisconsin (AP) -- The Wiccan pentacle has been added to the list of emblems allowed in national cemeteries and on government-issued headstones of fallen soldiers, according to a settlement announced Monday.

A settlement between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Wiccans adds the five-pointed star to the list of "emblems of belief" allowed on VA grave markers.

Eleven families nationwide are waiting for grave markers with the pentacle, said Selena Fox, a Wiccan high priestess with Circle Sanctuary in Barneveld, Wisconsin, a plaintiff in the lawsuit.

The settlement calls for the pentacle, whose five points represent earth, air, fire, water and spirit, to be placed on grave markers within 14 days for those who have pending requests with the VA.

"I am glad this has ended in success in time to get markers for Memorial Day," Fox said.
The VA sought the settlement in the interest of the families involved and to save taxpayers the expense of further litigation, VA spokesman Matt Burns said. The agency also agreed to pay $225,000 in attorneys' fees and costs.

The pentacle has been added to 38 symbols the VA already permits on gravestones. They include commonly recognized symbols for Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism, as well as those for smaller religions such as Sufism Reoriented, Eckankar and the Japanese faith Seicho-No-Ie.

"This settlement has forced the Bush Administration into acknowledging that there are no second class religions in America, including among our nation's veterans," said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, which represented the Wiccans in the lawsuit.

The American Civil Liberties Union said the agreement also settles a similar lawsuit it filed last year against the VA. In that case, the ACLU represented two other Wiccan churches and three individuals.

VA-issued headstones, markers and plaques can be used in any cemetery, whether it is a national one such as Arlington or a private burial ground like that on Circle Sanctuary's property.

Wicca is a nature-based religion based on respect for the earth, nature and the cycle of the seasons. Variations of the pentacle not accepted by Wiccans have been used in horror movies as a sign of the devil.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/23/wiccan.grave.ap/index.html

Well I know I said that the next post would be about my new job but it's not.

Today for the second time, someone has messed with Ahnika's car while it was parked here outside our apartment. I'm not clear exactly what happened this time, only that someone had stuffed something in her car door keyholes to the point where she couldn't get her key in to unlock the doors. The first time was several weeks ago and that time someone let the air out of all her tires. She thinks she might be being targeted by a disgruntled co-worker, I wonder if these things have occurred to only her car because it may have been the only vehicle parked there at the time and it's just some random jackass who may just do it to any car that happens to be there. I told Ahnika (as I told her the first time) to contact the Madison police to see if there have been any other similar incidents reported and report this one. I think I'll talk to the neighbors to see if they've been having any problems and make them aware of what's happened so far. Poor Ahnie called me this afternoon in tears ready to break our lease (yikes) I think she did contact the police this time...makes me not want to leave my car here at night.

In happier news I think I may have, at least for the time being, arranged to fill all of Denise's open shifts! Amazing! And in the nick of time since my last day with her is tomorrow. *whew*

Like many people I know, I've been a bit stressed lately (mine's work stuff) and I know one thing that helps me is to have something big to look forward to. So even though the website doesn't have dates up yet I'd like to start tentatively planning a trip to 6 flags for soon after they open for the season. If there are enough people interested (it's slightly discounted if you have at least 4) I'm considering a season pass Gemma? Tick? Sean? I know that there are some who might be interested in going but maybe not the season pass, Colin? Jim? Matt? Lindsay there's a waterpark built right in now you know :) s'pose very early in the season might not work for that weather wise... Come on guys it'll be fun! :) If there are others interested let me know.

Crap I forgot I still have to take in my timesheets :P

Over the two years (next month) I’ve been working for CLA (Community Living Alliance) they’ve tried to convince me to renew my CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification 4 separate times so I could take a job in the office vs. what I do now, working in peoples homes. It would pay more and have better benefits like sick time and vacation days. They really want to keep me.

So what’s causing me pause?

I’m too idealistic sometimes and I don’t like the way some things are handled, I don’t like what people turn into when they work in that setting. I would also have to be on call a lot and could be asked to drive all over creation to fill in for people when they call in. Then there’s the problem this would cause for the people I currently take care of.
Even so, this time I’m really considering it.

I’d have to take a class to get re certified and re test with state. A few hundred dollars and a few months I could be a CNA again…

It’s the one year anniversary of the tornado today.
It’s the day after my parents 27th wedding anniversary.
It’s the day I got my oil changed and found out that there are four safety recalls on my car.

One that could cause a fire in the drive shaft due to the ignition switch.

One that has something to do with the car’s computer, that might be the reason the “theft system” goes off sometimes even when the key is in the ignition.

One that has something to do with the way the car reacts to water, which might be why it shakes violently when it gets soaking wet. Could just be driving along and *pooof*

*laugh* fun
I have to take it in again Monday so they can fix all that stuff. :P

My appointment for the “fine needle aspiration” has been made for September 12th at 1:30 *gulp*

*BRB phone*

That was Denise, (the lady I work for) She’s been trying to convince me to go with her to her son’s wedding the first weekend in September, I thought the subject was closed since CLA said they wouldn’t pay for a personal living assistant to go.
Quick update:

More doctors in the last two days than in the last three years and I’m not done yet. :P

Just got past the song I was stuck on in Osu! Tatekae! Ouendan! It was the one were you’re trying to help a gym teacher er something, you have to get the girls to listen to him and like him enough that they don’t let him drown. Those little spinny things mess me up.

Still love the apartment, haven’t seen any sign of the roommate since Saturday (Ahnie, having fun? *grins*)

Lots of fun helping Sean move some more, I like jumping over the outside steps in front of his new building.

SoaP tomorrow, what to wear? *wanders off to fold laundry*

I’m in Stoughton celebrating my brother’s 23rd birthday today. I can’t believe it, 23. I’ve also just realized that I’ve been on Livejournal for a year now, I started last August (anything before that was backdated). Time flies I’m telling ya.

Nick wanted to see Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest today and I went with even though I saw it opening night (that was cool, oh yeah, who all is going to try to go to S oa P Thursday? Has anyone ordered tickets yet?). On the way back we saw a hot air balloon flying so low that we could wave to the people in the basket, and it was a rainbow balloon *grins*. Delightful.

It was just beautiful out today but it doesn’t seem like a Saturday to me. I know, I know nobody posts on Saturdays right? But I have net access here, so yeah.

I ran down the battery on my DS *hangs head* Caleb, I couldn’t get K.K. to play it. *pout*

Tomorrow’s helping Sean move! Hooray!

Hi Scott! Hi Zac! :)

There’s a tree I can see from the skylight in the living room that reminds me of the giant camphor tree from My Neighbor Totoro.

I love my new apartment. *grins* I think Ahnie and I moved to Madison at the perfect time, the heat wave just broke, there has been a pleasant breeze in the evenings and the nights have been cool.

I’ve walked to work for the past two days, it’s wonderful! I get to say hello to the people I pass along the way, exercise, fresh air, no dealing with morning rush hour traffic for 30 minutes plus, and I should really take pictures or count the awesome bumper stickers on peoples cars between my place and work. :)

Thank you so much to those of you who helped me move in! (and those who were willing to, we had lots of help it was great) I really do belong in Madison. *love love love*

I don’t have internet at the new place yet so if you comment here I most likely wont be prompt with a response, I hope to have that taken care of soon.

I love my *pink* DS, I love my friends, I love my life.
